ILOILO CITY—Two young children were killed by a landslide due to the effects of Habagat and exacerbated by tropical cyclones “Henry” and “Inday” in Barbaza town, Antique province.

A spot report from the Police Regional Office (PRO-6) identified the victims as 6-year-old Rosalia Samillano Agapito and 3-year-old Andrew Samillano Agapito.

Based on initial investigation, the brother and sister were sleeping inside their house at a hilly portion of Binanuan village when the soil eroded and enveloped their house past 3 a.m. of Sunday.

Their neighbors quickly assembled to rescue them and took them to Pedro L Gindap Municipal Hospital. Unfortunately the two were declared dead by the doctor.

Their 48-year-old mother, Tessie Samillano Agapito, sustained minor injuries.

Meanwhile, the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC-6) warned of other possible landslides or flooding in other areas of Western Visayas.

This is due to the effects of tropical depression “Josie”. Intermittent rainfall is still being experienced in Antique, Aklan, Capiz, Guimaras, Iloilo, and Negros Occidental provinces.
