Drug peddler slain in Bauan operation

BATANGAS CITY — A suspected drug peddler was killed in an armed encounter with the authorities during an anti-illegal drug operation in Bauan town while a former security guard was held over possessions of unlicensed firearms in Batangas City, Wednesday night.

Batangas Police Acting Provincial Director, Senior Superintendent Edwin Quilates in a report said joint operatives of San Pascual Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) and Bauan DEU conducted a buy bust operation at San Diego St., Barangay Poblacion, Bauan town.

The suspect identified as Chester Manalo tried to evade the arrest, drew his firearm instead and opened fire at the police prompting the authorities to retaliate at around 10:45 p.m.

Manalo who was shot in the chest was rushed to Bauan General Hospital but was declared dead on arrival. His body was brought to Funeraria Bautista for autopsy.

Police recovered a total of 9 sachets with shabu and drugs paraphernalia from the suspect.

Meanwhile, a 47 - year-old former security guard was arrested during a police raid confiscating two unlicensed firearms found under his bed in Batangas City.

Batangas City chief of police Supt. Sancho Celedio identified the suspect as Balbino Asi of Barangay Talumpok West, this city.

Operatives of Batangas City Police armed with a search warrant raided the house of the suspect at around 9:30 p.m.

Police recovered a black eco-bag under the bed inside Asi’s room with cal. 9mm and cal. 45 pistols and ammunition.

Celedio said the suspect, who was a drug surrenderee as user, has been reported in his barangay for indiscriminate firing when drunk.
