Former National Agribusiness Corporation (NABCOR) President Honesto Baniqued has been charged with graft before the Sandiganbayan Fifth Division in relation to the reportedly anomalous payment made to a certain individual for contract of services.
Baniqued was accused of violating Section 3(e) of R.A. 3019 or the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act in the charge sheet filed by Graft Investigation & Prosecution Officer III Sylvia A. Severo-Paraiso.
From the period of April 20, 2012 to July 2012, Baniqued allegedly took advantage of his administrative and official function when he gave Rodolfo V. Romeo unwarranted benefit, advantage or preference by approving the payment of P4,797,000.
The amount represented the initial payment and 50 percent of the stipulated remuneration in the Contract of Service between NABCOR and Romero, despite the lack of documentary evidence to support Romero’s claim for payment.
By paying the said amount to Romero as evidenced by United Coconut Planters Bank (UCPB) Check Numbers 55671 and 7046414, undue injury was caused to the government.
His bail bond has been set at P30,000.
