Trader faces raps at DOJ over unregistered business

A construction supply trader faces a criminal complaint before the Department of Justice (DOJ) for allegedly failing to register his business with the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR).

The BIR filed the complaint against Renell Paul Reyes, the sole proprietor of Paul Trading and Construction Supply based in San Mateo, Rizal.

Under its complaint, the BIR accused Reyes of unlawful pursuit of business in violation of Section 236 and punishable under Section 258 of the National Internal Revenue Code of 1997, as amended.

The BIR acted on a complaint which alleged that Reyes has been issuing unregistered sales invoices.

Because of this, the BIR conducted an investigation of his business activities and to look into the extent of his violations.

Upon verification, the Revenue District Office No. 45 Marikina City certified that there is no business registration in the name of Paul Trading Construction Supply.

“Based from the foregoing, it is clear that respondent Reyes committed the offense of Unlawful Pursuit of Business for failure to register with the BIR as engaged in the business of selling construction supply,” the BIR said.
