GEN. TINIO, Nueva Ecija — The family of slain Mayor Ferdinand Bote said Friday they are very thankful to President Rodrigo Duterte and the Philippine National Police for the “quick arrest of the suspected gunmen” believed to be responsible for the assassination of the fallen town leader.
In a one-page statement handed only by a female household helper to local mediamen, Mayvelyn Bote, widow of the late mayor, also stated that “we wanted that all those involved in the killing to be punished” as PNP chief Director General Oscar Albayalde announced earlier that the two arrested hired killers who murdered Bote had already confessed on who orchestrated the assassination job.
The two suspects, identified as Florencio Suarez and Robert Gumacay, were earlier arrested on Wednesday (July 11) by police operatives in a checkpoint while on board a vehicle in Del Gallego, Camarines Sur.
Albayalde disclosed that the suspects have already both confessed to have participated in the broad daylight murder of Bote on order of the mastermind whose identity has not yet been revealed and is now the subject of full-scale manhunt.
Bote was gunned down just after leaving the National Irrigation Administration regional office in Cabanatuan City more than a week ago, July 3.
The police are now zeroing in on business interests rather than political angle as the primary motive in the mayor’s assassination considering that Bote’s family is engaged in several projects in the province particularly in the NIA and Department of Public Works and Highways.
