Villar’s wife, 3 others appointed to DOJ

Former Democratic Independent Workers’ Association (DIWA) party-list Representative Emmeline Aglipay-Villar has been appointed as undersecretary of the Department of Justice (DOJ).

The DOJ announced on Wednesday that Emmeline, the wife of Public Works Secretary Mark Villar, was appointed to the post upon the recommendation of Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra.

Apart from Emmeline, Malacañang also appointed two other Guevarra recommendations as undersecretaries, namely, lawyers Adrian Sugay and Mark Perete.

The Secretary also recommended lawyer Neal Vincent Bainto who got appointed as DOJ assistant secretary.

The DOJ said the appointments were made after Malacañang accepted the courtesy resignations of Undersecretaries Raymund Mecate, Erickson Balmes, and Reynante Orceo as well as Assistant Secretary Juvy Manwong.

Immediately after taking over the DOJ following the resignation of former Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II, Guevarra issued a memorandum asking all DOJ undersecretaries and assistant secretaries to hand over their courtesy resignations on or before April 30.

The DOJ said Emmeline is a lawyer who obtained her law degree from the University of the Philippines (UP) in 2006.

Also a law graduate in 2006, Perete had been technical assistant with the rank of assistant secretary for the Legal Affairs at the Office of the President.

Sugay, who graduated law in 1993 from the Ateneo de Manila University, had been Special Assistant to the Corporate Head of the Philippine Ports Authority prior his appointment.

While, Bainto, who obtained a juris doctor degree also from the Ateneo de Manila, is a recipient of the Evelio Javier Leadership Award in 2012 and was senior associate of the respected Villaraza and Angangco Law Offices.
