DAVAO CITY — A 5.1-magnitude quake hit Surigao del Norte on Wednesday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said.
Based on the agency’s bulletin, the quake that was recorded at 12:24 a.m. was tectonic in origin and has a depth of 17 kilometers. The epicenter of the earthquake was located in San Francisco town in Surigao del Norte.
Intensity V was recorded in Surigao City, while Intensity IV was felt in Pintuyan in Southern Leyte. Phivolcs added that Intensity II was registered in the towns of Palompon and Palo in Leyte.
Phivolcs said no damage was expected from the quake but aftershocks could be felt in nearby areas.
The 5.1-magnitude quake followed the 4.7-magnitude quake that was also registered in the same location on Tuesday afternoon.
Tuesday’s quake has recorded an Intensity V in Surigao City, Intensity IV in San Francisco town; Intensity III in Tagana-an and Mainit towns in Surigao del Norte and San Ricardo town in Southern Leyte; Intensity II in Bacuag town; and Intensity I in Butuan City and Claver in Surigao del Norte.
