MAASIN, SOUTHERN LEYTEÂ -- To accommodate commercial flights, expand the province' tourism industry, and to comply with the international aviation standards for operational safety and efficiency, Maasin Airport inaugurated its new Passenger Terminal Building, located in Barangay Panan-awan here on Monday, July 2, 2018.

The new PTB development project involves the upcoming construction of parking area, powerhouse, access roads, aircon and furniture installation.
Maasin Airport is the only airport serving the province owned and operated by the
Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP).
Its construction was completed in March 2017, the airport served 1,595 passengers last year.
Department of Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade led the inauguration ceremony and unveiling of marker.
He disclosed that through the project, the airport has upgraded daily capacity to 150 passengers, from its previous capacity, which was only 50 per day.
Currently, Air Juan's 9-seater Cessna Grand Caravan and a Cebu-based flying school are operating in Maasin Airport. It accommodates flights from the city to Tagbilaran City, Bohol and Cebu four times a week.
Tugade said that they also plan to extend the runway from 1.3 to 1.8 kilometers in order to upgrade the airport from being a community airport to a standard principal class 2 airport.
"We will include that in the budget so that the construction of the runway's extension can be started next year," he stated.
Tugade was accompanied by DOTr Undersecretaries, Governor Damian Mercado, Vice-Governor Christopherson Yap, Congressman Roger Mercado, Mayor Nacional Mercado, Undersecretary Manuel Tamayo and Director General Jim Sydiongco.
