Boat captain, crewmen rescued from distressed vessel off Dumaguete City

A boat captain and three crew members were rescued from a distressed motorbanca between the waters off Siquijor and Dumaguete City, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said.

According to the Coast Guard, while Motorbanca “Golden Moon-IV” was transiting in the area Tuesday, its engine malfunctioned, prompting boat captain Gilbert Bayolita to seek help from the Coast Guard Southern Visayas Operations Center.

A Coast Guard unit was immediately deployed to conduct search and rescue operation. The distressed vessel was later found at the vicinity waters off Siquijor and Dumaguete City.

Bayolita told the Coast Guard that he and his crew came from Tubigon, Bohol bound for General Santos City. Motorbanca Golden Moon-IV was also towed to the Dumaguete Port.

No one was reported hurt during the incident, the Coast Guard said.

The boat captain was told to file a marine protest regarding the incident.
