The movie portrays the story of teenager Starr Carter played by Amandla Stenberg who witnesses a white police officer shoot and kill her childhood best friend, Khalil starred by Algee Smith.
Starr finds herself trapped between the two worlds where she lives in: a lower-income neighborhood that is mostly black where she lives and the private, suburban high school she attends with predominantly white students. Considering the pressures from both sides of the community, Starr must find her voice and stand up for what’s right.
