5 nuns cheat death in Surigao Sur road accident

Butuan City – Five sisters of Our Lady of Pompie School narrowly escaped death when the van they were riding in crashed late Wednesday afternoon along the national highway of Hinayhayan, Barangay Bacolod, Cagwait town, Surigao del Sur province.

A flash report received by the Northeastern Mindanao Police Regional Office 13 (PRO 13) based at Camp Colonel Rafael C. Rodriguez here identified the victims as: Sister Joelen Garay, 26; Sr. Yustina Uran, 31; Sr. Maria Alfonsa, 29; Sr. Sheera Pederano, 26 and Sr. Lydia D. Alvarez, 45, all members of Our Lady of Pompei School based in Lianga town, Surigao del Sur province.

Initial report said Sr. Alvarez was driving the green Hyundai Van, bearing Plate No. MCD 836 when the accident happened at around 5:15 p.m. Wednesday.

The driver and her passengers incurred injuries on different parts of their bodies.

A field report from Cagwait Municipal Police Station (MPS) said the van was heading towards Tandag City from Lianga town.

Responding rescue teams from the municipalities of Cagwait, Tago and Bayabas brought the victims to Adela Serra Ty Memorial Medical Center in Tandag City for treatment.

As of press time, the victims are already in stable condition.
