Zamboanga City – The local government has earmarked P69 million for the incentive allowance of teachers this year.

Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar said this year’s allocation will be higher by P22 million compared to last year’s P47 million in incentive allowances.

Salazar said the increase translates to a P1,000-cash allowance for each teacher, which is higher compared to the previous allowance of P700.

Salazar said the local government also hired 40 local school board teachers to augment the requirements of the Department of Education (DepEd) this school year.

Salazar also announced that the special education funds for school buildings for this year has increased by P66 million – to P249 million from P183 million last year.

She said 21 climate resilient school buildings, costing some P322 million, are currently in various stages of completion in different barangays and are expected to be turned over in time for school year 2018-2019.

Early last week, the mayor led the turnover of two infrastructure projects for the education sector here amounting to P11.1 million.

This included a bleacher at the covered court of the San Roque Elementary School and the Technology and Livelihood Education building of the Zamboanga National High School West.
