Acting Chief Justice Antonio T. Carpio has joined the nation in mourning over the passing of former national security adviser and member of Congress Roilo Golez.
In a statement, Carpio said the nation has lost “a true patriot” in Golez for his role in defending the country’s rights in West Philippine Sea.
“He was an indefatigable defender of the West Philippine Sea. He embraced lawfare as a peaceful means of asserting our sovereign rights in the WPS,” he said.
A graduate of the United States Naval Academy, Golez was a former officer of the Philippine Navy. He also served as postmaster general and member of the House of Representatives for several terms until 2001.
He was the security adviser of former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo from 2001 to 2004.
