The Quezon City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (DRRMO) has upgraded its alert status from “yellow” to “red” as heavy rains continued to pound Metro Manila.

Pedestrians brave the heavy torrential rains brought by Tropical Storm ‘Domeng’ at EDSA Kamuning in Quezon City yesterday. The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has finally announced the start of the rainy season last June 8 wherein the western part of the country will experience scattered to widespread heavy rains and thunderstorms in the coming days. With this additional personnel from the city’s DRRMO were called in to reinforce the Disaster Action Team on standby at the Emergency Operations Center at city hall.

Karl Michael Marasigan, head of the QC DRRMO, led an inspection team that visited several flood-prone areas in the city such as Roxas District, Talayan, Tatalon,
Damayang Lagi and Doña Imelda.

“The barangay officials and the Barangay DRRM Committees have contingency plans in place. They know what to do and we’re also ready to assist should the need
arises,” Marasigan said.
