Pilot, 3 passengers survive crash in South Cotabato

Three passengers and a pilot escaped with minor injuries after the Model R44 Raven 2 helicopter crashed a few minutes after take-off at the DOLE-Stanfilco Avocado Farm in Sitio Glandang, Brgy. Kablon, Tupi, South Cotabato.

Based on the report of Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP), the accident happened at 9:57 this morning.

According to the spot report of Tupi Police Station, on board the helicopter were the pilot, Capt. Dennis Figueroa, and three passengers: foreign nationals Dr. Jorge Gonzales and Cecilia Donaire, and a Filipina, Alica Bengco. The three passengers were said to be executives of DOLE Philippines, Inc. and were on their way to the Municipality of Surallah.

The report said that the chopper’s pilot and its passengers sustained minor bruises and were conscious when they were rescued. All passengers were brought to Howard Hubbard Memorial Hospital in Polomolok, South Cotabato.

CAAP immediately dispatched its Aircraft Accident Investigation and Inquiry Board (AAIIB) headed by inspectors Rommel Ronda and Henry Paradero to investigate the cause of the crash.
