Tagbilaran City – One of suspects in the killing of a town mayor in Bohol was killed early Wednesday after engaging in an encounter with police in Danao town.

Emigdio Aparece Jr., one of the suspects in the killing of Buenavista Mayor Ronald Lowel Tirol more than a week ago, was killed during a police operation in Barangay Concepcion.

Police said Aparece was a backup to Elmer Melencion, the alleged triggerman who killed Tirol inside a cockpit in Barangay Asinan, Buenavista, on May 27.

A police SWAT team was sent to Barangay Concepcion on a tip that Melencion was there.

He reportedly sensed the approach of police officers and fired at them. A shootout ensued that killed Aparece.

Aparece had also been linked to the killing of SPO1 Alejandro Estorgo and several others.

Police were still in pursuit of the two suspects in the killing.
