KIDAPAWAN CITY – After 17 years of hiding, authorities captured one of North Cotabato’s most wanted persons in Davao del Sur, a police officer said.

Chief Inspector John Felongco Medel, chief of Makilala PNP, identified the murder suspect as Faustino Cambongga Gentapan, 48, and resident of Barangay Kisante, Makilala.

Medel said Gentapan, also known in his barangay as ‘Osting’, was apprehended in Davao del Sur, on Tuesday.

He is faced with murder under Criminal Case Number 5623-01. The crime happened in 2001 at Barangay Kisante, Makilala.

Investigators said Osting did not expect he would be apprehended by authorities since he thought the “case has already been buried in the court’s archives” when police could no longer locate his whereabouts.

Medel, however, said they received a very reliable “tip” from a resident of Matan-ao, Davao del Sur and informed them that Osting is confined in a hospital in Davao del Sur.

Osting, after he committed the murder, hid in several places until he settled in Matan-ao town, investigators said.

Immediately, Medel and his team went to Davao del Sur Provincial Hospital to look for Osting.

Armed with a warrant of arrest issued by a local court here, the police arrested the murder suspect.

He was transferred to a hospital in Makilala where he was placed under hospital arrest, reports said.
