Sen. Sherwin T. Gatchalian, chairman of the Senate economic affairs committee, said on Wednesday a family of five cannot survive on a P10,000 per month.
Breaking the P120,000 down, Gatchalian said the monthly food budget of P3,834 amounts to only P8 per meal for each person.
‘’That’s not even enough to buy a pack of instant noodles. P806 per month for transportation amounts to only P8 per person per day. That’s not even enough for a one-way jeepney ride,’’ he pointed out.
Gatchalian said the P2,204 monthly budget for lodging and utilities would force a family of five to share a cramped small apartment or even a single room, without even the most basic household comforts.
‘’P10,000 simply isn’t enough. The government’s economic managers should use more realistic benchmarks,’’ he added.
