Deadline.com revealed in an exclusive report that MGM is nearing a deal with Witherspoon for her to reprise her role.

The original Legally Blonde team is also set to return for the follow-up movie. Among them are writer Kirsten (Kiwi) Smith and Karen McCullah, who both adapted the Amanda Brown novel for the 2001 first film, and producers Marc Platt and Adam Siegel, president of Platt Productions.

The movie’s plot is apparently being kept concealed, but Deadline said the third Legally Blonde will focus on female empowerment.

"It will be much in the spirit of the first film, in which Woods’ idealism and pink-dominant wardrobe prevailed over the cynicism and snootiness all around her after the freshly dumped former sorority sister heads to law school.

The sequel brought her to D.C. to join the staff of a congresswoman to pass a bill to ban animal testing...The feeling is to draw back in the audience that grew up with the original film and find a new global audience," Deadline reported.

The first Legally Blonde movie premiered 17 years ago in 2001. Meanwhile, it's sequel “Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde” was released in 2003.

In 2009, a spin-off of the movie, Legally Blondes, was released. The movie revolved around Woods' cousins.
