RODRIGUEZ, Butuan City – An alleged high -ranking official of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army (CPP-NPA) was arrested by the combined forces of the Philippine National Police (PNP) and Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) at Emenvile Subdivision, Barangay Ambago, Butuan City yesterday afternoon, a regional police official today said.
Chief Supt. Noli A. Romana, regional director of Northeastern Mindanao Police Regional Office 13 (PRO 13), identified the arrested alleged CPP-NPA official as Nerita Calamba De Castro also known as Nene/Neneng, 55, a resident of Purok Nangka, Barangay Bioto, Tandag City, Surigao del Sur.
The regional police chief alleged that the arrested suspect is the head finance of CPP-NPA Komisyon Mindanao (KOMMID) and secretary general of Regional White Area Committee.
Romana also claimed that the suspect was allegedly charged with murder and was arrested through implementation of arrest warrant issued by Judge Lilibeth O. Ladaga, executive judge of the Regional Trial Court Branch 8, Lianga, Surigao Del Sur dated March 13, 2018 under Criminal Case Number 18-3304 with no bail recommended.
The suspect was completely surprised when combined operatives of the PRO 13 Intelligence Division led by Senior Supt. Martin M. Gamba, Butuan City Police Office and elements of the AFP’s 402nd Infantry (Stingers) Brigade and other law enforcement agencies arrived in the targeted area.
“This notable accomplishment bespeaks of the dedication of the involved personnel and their diligence to serve, which are the finest qualities of a true public servant and protector of the people,” Romana disclosed.
The success of the operation was also a result of continued information networking with the public in reporting criminals aligned to the nationwide implementation of LOI “Manhunt Charlie,” the PNP’s campaign against wanted persons, he added.
The suspect is currently under tactical investigation inside the regional headquarters of PRO 13 at Camp Colonel Rafael C. Rodriguez here.
Meanwhile, Maj. Gen. Ronald C. Villanueva, commanding general of the Army’s Northeastern and Northern Mindanao 4th Infantry (Diamond) Division commended combined elements of PRO 13, 402nd Brigade, BCPO and elements of the PNP and AFP for the successful arrest of the suspect.
