T’boli, South Cotabato – Local officials here have asked the regional office of the Mines and Geo-Sciences Bureau (MGB) to investigate the collapse of a mining tunnel operated by T’boli Mining Corp where a miner was reportedly killed.

Mayor Dibu Tuan said MGB officials were still investigating the incident to determine if the TMC mining firm committed lapses which led to the collapse last Monday of its tunnel within the gold-rush area in Barangay Kematu, here.

A miner, identified as George Man-a,31, of Baguio City, died after he was trapped inside the collapsed tunnel.

MGB regional director Efren Garrido said the fatality together with two other miners were undertaking rehabilitation and steel timbering of the roof tunnel when the structure suddenly collapsed.

He said the victim was hit and buried by the fallen rocks inside the tunnel.

The victim was brought to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The MGB has immediately ordered the suspension of the mining operations of TMC which is engaged in gold and copper mining.
