The Philippine National Police (PNP) will be creating a new regional police office once the Bangsamoro government is formed what with the expected approval of the Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL) which was certified as urgent by President Duterte.

PNP chief Director General Oscar Albayalde explained that since the proposed Bangsamoro government requires the creation of a police force, it would be the PNP which would create one in coordination with the Moro leadership.

“There was already an agreement, that the PNP will create a regional office there,” said Albayalde.

Earlier, the PNP leadership brought up concerns on the stripping of some powers of the PNP over the police organization that would be created under the Bangsamoro government.

Should the PNP is stripped of control and supervision over the police in the area, police officials said the police force may turn into private goons of local officials.

But Albayalde said the issue has already been resolved based on their consultation meeting.

“What was agreed is that we will create a new police regional office under the PNP. The command and control is under the PNP,” said Albayalde.

“We did not have any issue on this. It is well accepted and it is the same with the Armed Forces of the Philippines,” he added.

He explained that even the appointment of commanders will still be under the PNP, although consultations is expected with the Bangsamoro leadership.
