The Commission on Appointments (CA) confirmed the appointment of Agrarian Reform Secretary John Rualo Castriciones on Wednesday.
Yesterday, the CA panel transmitted their decision for concurrence.
Senator Grace Poe, chair of the committee on agrarian reform said that 13 members voted to approve Castriciones’ nomination.
There were two members however who voted no to Castriciones’ nomination.
During the hearing, Castriciones had several oppostiors, most of which were farmers who divulged several issues that were against the new DA Secretary.
An oppositor, DAR-EA Union President Antonia Pascual told the CA panel that she was appealing that the panel reject Castriciones’ appointment because of his alleged “military mindset.”
The bicameral appointments body once bypassed Castriciones’ appointment. President Rodrigo Duterte appointed him to the position following the CA’s rejection of activist Rafael Mariano last September.
