Malacañang is optimistic that Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat will effectively implement reforms in her department after getting the nod of a Commission on Appointments (CA) panel.
The appointment of Puyat, daughter of former Senator Alberto Romulo, as tourism chief was swiftly approved by the CA panel Tuesday.
“The tourism industry is an important sector for economic development. We thus welcome the confirmation of the appointment of Ms. Bernadette Romulo-Puyat as the new Secretary of the Department of Tourism (DOT),” Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque said.
“We are confident that Secretary Puyat’s confirmation would give further impetus to the reforms she has spearheaded in the DOT,” he added.
President Duterte has appointed Puyat to head the tourism department early this month, replacing Wanda Teo who resigned amid advertisement contract controversy.
Puyat, who holds a master’s degree in economics from the University of the Philippines, previously served as undersecretary of the Department of Agriculture.
