KIDAPAWAN CITY – The son of the newly elected barangay chairman was killed while he and his two councilmen were wounded when ambushed by still unidentified gunmen along the national highway in Pikit, North Cotabato, around 11:20 a.m., Monday, reports said.

The police in Pikit identified the fatality as Ranulfo “Bobong” Lisundra Bautista, son of Barangay Takepan chairman Santos Bautista, 61.

Chairman Bautista sustained gunshot wounds, along with two of his barangay councilors identified as Roberto Midsapak, 51; and Robin Salvador.

Reports said the victims had just attended a meeting at the municipal gym in Pikit town and were on their way to Barangay Batulawan when waylaid by two still unidentified gunmen.

Ranulfo Bautista died on the spot after he was hit on his head.

The victims were all on board a Bongo pickup truck driven by the chairman’s son.

Police have yet to establish if the ambush was related to the recently concluded barangay elections.

At this time, they said, they are still clueless as to the identities of the gunmen and the mastermind.
