P9-M marijuana plantation torched in Kalinga

BAGUIO CITY — Joint anti-narcotics agents from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA)-Cordillera and the local police destroyed over P9 million worth of marijuana plantations in Tinglayan, Kalinga this weekend.

PDEA-Cordillera Regional Information Officer Joseph Calulut said no cultivators were arrested in the 12 marijuana plantations discovered on Saturday.

The first, Calulut said, was in Barangay Loccong, Tinglayan, 3,200 pieces of fully-grown marijuana plants were uprooted from an 800-square-meter area. The Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) estimated the plants to be worth about P640,000.

Other operatives combed the area until they reached Barangay Buscalan, also in Tinglayan, where they discovered 11 marijuana cultivation sites covering a total area of 5,180 square meters.

A total of 41,910 pieces of fully-grown marijuana plants, valued by the DDB at P8,382,000, were uprooted and burned.
