Police officer gunned down by 4 motorcycle-riding assailants
A police officer was gunned down today by motorcycle-riding assailants in Tondo, Manila.
Case investigator PO3 Marlon San Pedro identified the victim as PO2 Carlo Pineda, 47, of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Holding Admin Unit. Pineda was previously assigned at the Manila Police District (MPD) Homicide Section.
Initial police reports said the victim was engaged in a drinking session with four other people today at around 1 a.m. at the corner of Fransisco and F. Varona streets, Tondo, Manila when the four unidentified gunmen onboard a motorcycle suddenly appeared and began firing shots at Pineda.
The suspects then fled the scene toward an unknown direction. Pineda, meanwhile, was rushed to the Mary Johnston Memorial Hospital but unfortunately succumbed to his gunshot wounds.
Investigators recovered eight pieces of fired cartridge cases and four pieces of fired bullet from the crime scene. However, the motive behind the incident is yet to be determined, police said. (Hans Amancio)
Two men found dead in separate areas in Manila
Two men were found lifeless Thursday in separate areas in Manila.
Jayme Cuizon, a mendicant reportedly aged between 34 and 40, was found dead during the wee hours of May 24 in Rizal Park, case investigator PO3 Dennis Turla said.
Initial reports said that Jheb Bidan, 44, an on-duty security guard at the Rizal Park, was making rounds around the area by 12:15 a.m. when he discovered a lifeless Cuizon lying on his back wearing a red t-shirt and gray shorts, prompting him to seek the help of officers from the Ermita Police Station.
Upon closer examination, results showed no sign of external physical injury on Cuizon's body.
His remains are now at Archangel Funeral Homes for autopsy and safekeeping.
Meanwhile, a lifeless body of an unidentified man was found along Service Road, Malate, Manila Thursday.
The male victim, described as around 4' 11" in height, around 45 to 50 years old and wearing a blue maong short, was found already stiff on May 24 at around 1:30 a.m., SPO4 Glenzor Vallejo said.
Elements of the Roxas Boulevard Police Community Precinct were conducting a motorized patrol along the area when they spotted the victim on the ground. The officers then approached the victim to wake him up but only to discover that the victim was already dead.
The victim's remains are now at Archangel Funeral Homes for autopsy and safekeeping. Meanwhile, initial physical examination revealed that no foul play was involved in the victim's death. (Hans Amancio)
Man stabs himself to death after killing his partner
A man stabbed himself to death after killing first his partner due to a heated argument yesterday in Taguig City.
The victim, Joanna Tracy, 30, a resident of Unit 2102 Ivory Tower, Rosewood Pointee, Acacia Estate, Barangay Ususan, Taguig City, died on the spot due to multiple stab wounds.
The suspect identified as Rhandolf Sabares, also died after stabbing himself.
According to Taguig City Police Chief Senior Supt. Alexander Santos, the incident occurred at around 2:15 p.m. on Friday at the condominium unit of the victim.
Prior to the incident, housemaid Gie Viray Malinao said the victim picked up Sabares from his home in Pangasinan four days before.
The two later had a heated argument prompting Tracy to tell the suspect to go back to Pangasinan. This infuriated Sabares who took a bladed weapon and repeatedly stabbed Tracy causing her immediate death.
After this according to police, the suspect went to the basement of the said place and then stabbed himself to death.
Police are still investigating the said incident. (Dhel Nazario)
Two known drug peddlers killed after shootout with police during buy bust
Two alleged drug suspects were killed after engaging in a shootout with the police during a drug bust in Quezon City this morning.
Investigators of the Quezon City Police District identified the suspects only as certain "Ariel," who was wearing black shirt, black shorts and slippers; and certain "Toto," clad in red sleeveless shirt, maong pants and slippers.
Police said the two men were known armed drug peddlers operating in their area.
Members of the Station Drug Enforcement Unit (SDEU) of Kamuning Police Station (PS-10) set a drug bust against the duo at about 1:25 a.m., on Montana Service Road near DLTB Bus parking lot, in Barangay Immaculate Conception.
An undercover policeman transacted with the men. However, when the suspects sensed they were dealing with the police, they pulled their guns and shot at the operatives.
Police retaliated resulting in a shootout which eventually led to the suspects' death due to multiple gunshot wounds on their bodies.
Operatives recovered a caliber .38 Smith and Wesson revolver without serial number, a caliber .38 Colt Special revolver, 18 sachets of shabu, some drug paraphernalia, and the marked money. (Alexandria San Juan)
