In accepting “Sid & Aya,” awarded actor Dingdong Dantes alluded to his marriage as one of the factors for his decision.
At the recently held media conference for“Sid & Aya,” he explained that married life has invigorated his passion as an actor. He has become more vigilant in looking for roles that challenges him as an actor. He has also relied on his instinct, whether a project excites him or not. And his role as Sid was a good find for Dingdong.
“Marriage will mature you as a person. And maturity is an important factor with a script like this and a character like this, you have to have a different perspective,” he added.
Basing it on the trailer of “Sid & Aya” alone, Dingdong pointed out to the various interpretations a viewer can get from watching it. As an actor in the film, he too has various interpretations of the whole film especially with his role. Such is the appeal of the movie to him when he first read the script.
“Halimbawa yung script pa lang pagka-bigay sa amin maraming pwedeng interpretation. We as actors also interpret it differently. So sa set meron akong ibang ibibigay, si Anne napakarami at napakalawak ng interpretation sa pag ganap bilang Aya. Our director is also there to guide us together with the D.O.P. sobrang kami collaborative. Kaya kung titignan mo sa iba’t-ibang perspective at marami kang makikita,” the actor described.
He revealed too that the whole film has excited him and Anne from the time they started working on it. He is also certain that the finished film will surprise both of them when they watch it for the first time on its premiere night on May 28 at Trinoma Cinema 7.
As to his character Sid, he said he could only relate to him because he is flawed. Like everyone else in the world, he has his flaws. But he is unlike Sid in a lot of ways in real life like being a user.
Dingdong also shared that the 20 years that has gone by before reuniting with Anne Curtis-Smith for “Sid & Aya” has its benefits particularly in portraying Sid. They once were in the youth-oriented show “T.G.I.S.” and Dingdong was 18 years old then while Anne, who was new in showbiz then, was only 14 years old.
“Feeling ko sobrang sakto yung pagkakataon na ito. Because if this happened 10 years ago, it may not be that special working together. We’re very grateful kami lalo na ako na after 20 years nagkaroon ako ng movie with her. And what we have become as actors now because of those years helped,” intimated Dingdong.
In “Sid & Aya,” Dingdong is Sid an insomniac who hires Aya (Anne Curtis-Smith), a woman he just met to spend time with him while he’s awake.
From the screenplay and direction of box-office writer/director Irene Villamor, Dingdong, like Anne, was cast for the role because he was deemed to possess a “strong personality” to play the complicated character of Sid.
“Sid & Aya” is produced by VIVA Films and N2 Productions. Its theme song, “Di Na Muli,” is sung by Janine Tenoso.
