Mayor survives ambush in Lanao del Norte

Iligan City – Pantao Ragat, Lanao del Norte Mayor Lacson Lantud survived an ambush on his convoy, Sunday, in Barangay Cabasagan Sunday morning.

Sr. Insp. Rector Iwangan, said Lantud and company was on their way to Barangay Banday to check on the water system and an electricity project when they were waylaid by armed men said to be numbering five to 10.

The attack transpired at 9:15 a.m. and was only reported to authorities by a local resident who had to travel to the nearest police station because of poor cellular phone signal in the area.

According to Iwangan, Lantud’s group was passing Barangay Cabasagan, which is adjacent to Barangay Banday, when they were ambushed.

Lantud escaped unharmed. It was the third time he was ambushed since 2010.

Killed on-the-sport were Khalic Disamburon and Monsur Saro Omar, while PO1 Mahid S. Macalaba was pronounced dead-on-arrival at the Balo-I Provincial Hospital, and Casanuding T. Hasim at the Adventist Medical Center.

All four dead persons were taken by their relatives for immediate burial while three others who were wounded were treated at a hospital in Iligan City. They were PO1 Hamza Mangonte, Sangguniang Bayan member Acmad P. Magumnang and Farmon L. Macarimbang.
