Feast of Santa Rita de Cascia to be celebrated tomorrow

A special commemorative mass will be celebrated at 6 p.m. tomorrow at the Santa Rita de Cascia Church in Philam Homes, Quezon City, in solemn observance of the Feast of Santa Rita de Cascia, the patron saint of impossible causes.

A solemn procession follows the mass.

Novena masses were held from May 13 to 21. Bishop Honesto F. Ongtioco celebrated a high mass in her honor at the church last Sunday, May 20. Special masses in honor of Santa Rita will also be offered at the San Agustin Church in Intramuros, Manila.

Commemorative rites will also be held in many parts of the country such as in Baclaran, Paranaque City; Sta. Rita, Guiguinto, Bulacan; and in Del Gallego, Camarines Sur.

Born in Cascia, Italy in the year 1381, Sta. Rita served as an Augustinian nun for 40 years and spent her days in prayer, contemplation on the Passion of Christ, and service to the sick and the poor. She died in 1457 and was canonized on May 24, 1900 by Pope Leo XIII. Many miracles had been attributed through her intercession that in Italy and Spain, Sta. Rita is known as “La santa de los imposibles” or the saint of impossible causes.
