He said that through House Bill (HB) 7719 will automatically give elected barangay officials and SK officials an eligibility. “
The BOE shall be considered appropriate for appointment to first level positions in the career service, except positions covered by board laws and or those that require other special eligibilities as determined by the Commission, or those that require licenses,” he further narrated.
“Right now, the BOE is granted to the following Barangay Officials based strictly on completion of term of office: Elective Barangay Officials: Punong Barangay/Barangay Captain, regular Sangguniang Barangay Members, and Sangguniang Kabataan Chairmen; and Appointive Barangay Officials: Barangay Treasurers, and Barangay Secretaries who were appointed by the duly elected Punong Barangay,” he said.
He explained that the reason is the age requirement that is now virtually the same such as 18 – above for barangay officials and 18 to 24 years old for Sangguaniang Kabataan officials.
“But the higher purpose is to further empower youth participation in nation -building,” Salceda said.
