KIDAPAWAN CITY – Mayor Joseph Evangelista has turned over the P100,000-reward to the chief of police of Maitum town in Sarangani, who could release the bounty to the person who was able to provide the vital information that led to the apprehension of the main suspect in the rape-slay of a three-year-old girl in this city.

Evangelista handed the amount to Sr. Insp. Juanito Castillo at the city hall yesterday morning, a day after the mayor presented to local media main suspect in the heinous crime, Rene Montano Bueno, 27, a former hardware store employee here.

Last week, the mayor offered the amount as bounty to those who could provide any information that could lead to the arrest of the suspect who raped then killed the toddler.

Supt. Ramel Hojilla, chief of the Kidapawan City PNP, said that based on their investigation, Bueno escaped hours after he allegedly raped and killed his own three-year old cousin. He sought help from a friend, who drove him to Maitum town.

In Maitum, Bueno found himself without food or money and started to beg at the town’s public market.

“But because of the social media, there were those who noticed Bueno and reported him to the Maitum PNP. When Bueno found out he could no longer escape, he yielded to the police,” said Hojilla.

Netizens have been posting photos of Bueno in the “I Love Kidapawan” Facebook page.

Bueno is now at the detention center of the Kidapawan City PNP and has charged with rape with murder, a non-bailable offense.
