BUTUAN CITY – An alleged commander of the Communist New People’s Army Terrorist (CNT) who was wounded during a gunbattle with government security forces was captured by pursuing troops in Southern Mindanao, Capt. Jerry S. Lamosao, chief of Public Affairs Office (PAO) of the Army’s 10th Infantry (Agila) Division (10th ID), said.

In a statement sent to The Manila Bulletin late Saturday afternoon, the 10th ID PAO officer said the wounded CNT commanding officer was given initial medical aid for his bullet wounds by the government field troops before he was sent to a hospital.

However, Capt. Lamosao said the captured CNT commander will face the bar of justice for his alleged criminal actions and other terroristic activities.

The CNT commander whose identity was temporarily withheld was captured in a fierce gunbattle with field troops of the Army’s 1003rd Infantry Brigade at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday (May 10) in Sitio Linao, Barangay Kipilas, Kitaotao, Bukidnon province.

At 2 p.m. the following day (May 11), clearing and pursuing troops of the 1003rd Brigade found in the earlier encounter site and rebels escape route of withdrawal, blood stains, several napkins stained with blood and enemy bunkers, Capt. Lamosao said.

During pursuit operation, the wounded CNT commander’s unabated terroristic actions finally ceased through Joint Law enforcement pursuit operation at 10 a.m. on Saturday (May 12), the 10th ID PAO officer said.

The wounded CNT commanding officer belonged to the Pulang Bagani Command 1, Sub-Regional Command 5 (PBC 1, SRC 5) of the CPP-NPA Southern Mindanao Regional Command (SMRC). “His capture will diminish PBC 1 capabilities that will end anti-development activities of the NPA,” claimed Capt. Lamosao.

The CNT commander is currently under medical treatment for his bullet wounds in an undisclosed hospital in the region.

The 10th ID PAO officer said that the captured CNT commander was allegedly responsible for the destruction and burning of construction equipment in Davao that delayed much-needed development in the hinterlands of Paquibato district and the region. “His brand of terrorism affects the improvement of everyone’s lives,” he alleged.

Meanwhile, Maj. Gen. Noel S. Clement on Sunday said the 10th ID is committed to bring peace in Southern Mindanao region. “The commitment of 10th ID is to bring peace to the region by removing those who threatened it and make them face the bar of justice,” he said, in a statement.

“We are always grateful for the untiring support of the people. 10ID urges the remaining CPP-NPA terrorists to give up armed struggle and avail of government’ Comprehensive Local Integration Program,” Maj. Gen. Clement added.
