BUTUAN CITY – The Police Provincial Office (PPO) here tagged 50 barangays as under its election watch list areas (EWAs) in Surigao del Sur ahead of the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) slated May 14.
But the PNP provincial command has also reported that no untoward incident has so far been reported in any of these barangays.
“The EWAs were said to be places influenced by leftist groups and other related factors,” the Surigao del Sur PPO noted.
Based on COMELEC Resolution No. 10 – 26, the campaign period had been set on May 4 – 12, 2018.
The PPO also noted that “no intense political rivalry has been monitored.” And it was also fortunate that 59 barangays in the province had candidates vying for the top post of barangay chairman unopposed, the Surigao del Sur PPO averred.
Surigao del Sur PPO Provincial Director Sr. Supt. Fancisco Dungo nevertheless stressed the need for the police to continue and intensify the monitoring of all election-related activities.
According to Dungo, unit commanders have also been directed to closely coordinate with their respective Army counterpart for a joint and unified approach in maintaining peace and order in the province.
