Newly appointed Commissioner Socorro Inting considers her appointment to the Commission on Elections as God’s blessing.
“I count my appointment to the Comelec as God’s blessing. Not everyone is lucky to be appointed at the Comelec, In fact, I learned that there were 50 others who were interested,” she told poll officials and employees after being sworn into office Thursday.
But Inting admitted being a bit apprehensive saying election laws is alien to her.
“I am a little bit apprehensive because I am entering…to be honest, election laws is alien to me. So, I really need to study the election laws and other related matters,” she said.
“I beg of you commissioners to bear with me. But don’t worry I am a fast learner,” added Inting.
She said she is a team player who can decide out of the box.
“But I always adhere to my credo, my lifelong credo: that one should do what is right,” Inting said.
She added she looks forward to working with everyone as she begins a new life and challenging career in the poll body.
In his welcome remarks, Acting Comelec Chair Al Parreño noted that Commissioner Inting was joining the poll body at a time when the election management body is preparing for both the 2018 BSKE and the 2019 National and Local Elections.
He said her addition would greatly enhance the Commission’s ability to successfully handle the demands of preparing for the said electoral exercises.
Inting, a former Court of Appeals justice, was appointed to the Comelec last month.
