An all-female group won the 2018 K-pop Cover Dance Festival held recently at the Tanghalang Pasigueño in Pasig City.
Daisy Siete, composed of 13 members, bagged first place for doing a cover dance of Seventeen’s “Clap.”
“One month after the debut of Seventeen in 2015, the 13 of us gathered together to form a cover group. I’d like to see various Seoul’s attractions and K-pop star that I only visualized,” said Daisy Siete team leader Lojelly Rendal.
The cover dance contest was organized by the Korean Cultural Center (KCC) together with Seoul Shinmun Daily.
Kim Hong Kon, consul general of Korean Embassy in the Philippines, graced the opening ceremony. A total of 130 teams from all around the Philippines applied from which 20 were selected for the finals. The cover dance groups performed songs of K-pop acts such as BTS, Seventeen and VIXX.
“There are still lots of people who like Korean wave,” noted Lee Jincheol, KCC Philippines director, who wished the “winner will also have a great performance in Korea.”
The festival is on its fifth year in the Philippines. The KCC helps in spreading hallyu, or Korean Wave, in the Philippines.
The 2018 K Pop Cover Dance Festival will choose winners from 10 countries starting in June and they will be invited to the grand finals in Seoul, which will be held end of June.
