The next big thing in home decor serves both as an aesthetic home furnishing and as a health armor for you and your loved ones. It is made up of a natural mineral that survived the test of time. I’m talking about salt– yes, a million year-old crystal shaped substance.
It has been said that salt water heals – be it wounds and cuts on the outside or the ones we have inside. Now, imagine having to enjoy the benefits of the ocean right at your very own room or at your office any time of the day through Himalayan salt lamps. These one of a kind salt lamps give homes and offices not only a relaxed atmosphere but also health benefits which people of all ages can benefit from.
What Are Himalayan Salt Lamps?
The Himalayan Salt are mined at the Khewra Salt Mine at the Punjab Region in Pakistan. They are hygroscopic and they attract water molecules in the air which might carry allergens such as dust, pollen, pet dander, smoke particles, and other airborne bacteria and viruses.
“Himlayan salts are mined from prehistoric seas that have been covered by land formation. The pink salts have been around for 250 million years, which means that it can last for 250 million more,” shared Salt and Light Enterprise founder Chris Ganigan.
Himalayan salt lamp prevents you from breathing in the water vapor containing dirt. It cleans the air that you breathe in. The lamp that brings heat to the salt absorbs the water vapor. This process will ionize the air which is like bringing the waterfall and the ocean at the very comfort of your own home.
Himalayan Salt Lamp and its Benefits
These pretty pink lamps of salt are more than just fancy-looking additions to your home, Himalayan salt lamps cleanses and deodorizes the air. “The salt lamps are amber in color, so aside from it bringing in a relaxing ambience, it also helps people with insomnia bring back their sleeping pattern,” said Salt and Light Enterprise co-founder Nelia Ganigan. “We get a lot of feedbacks from our customers that the salt lamps help them sleep well.”
Aside from the aforementioned, the salt lamps eases coughing, reduces allergy, and lessens asthma attacks. The ambience that the salt lamp gives help improve mood and concentration. Himalayan salt lamp is also good for breathing for it releases negative ions which promotes relaxation and lowers the level of anxiety and stress. The salt lamps are safe even for babies and pregnant women.
Nature Inside Home
On choosing the right salt lamps for your home, Nelia Ganigan shares that the lamps come in different shapes and sizes to best complement the area in which you choose to place them. There are desk lamps which are perfect for those who are always on long work hours whether inside or outside the home. They can cover up to 12-14 sq. meters.
The small salt lamp which may look petite but weighs 3 kilograms fits a larger room that has up to 18 sq. meters. Larger lamps are suggested for bigger spaces for it better emits negative ions. These larger lamps are as heavy as 17 kilos.
You can place the salt lamps in bedrooms and even in kids’ rooms. It looks good in the living room and very useful in rooms that smell such as smoking rooms. For better concentration, have one on your work space or home office. It can also be placed in meditation and spa rooms.
Ganigan warns us about purchasing fake salt lamps. A way to determine if a salt lamp is authentic is by taste. Salt lamps are edible for they are still salt, and if the lamp tastes salty, then it only means one thing— it is real. Also, authentic Himalayan salt lamps are not perfect in texture. Since they are mined irons that were stuck in sea water, the lamp would have fissures. Legitimate salts come in white bluish and pink colors. The pink color is caused by the abundance of 84 trace minerals such as potassium, magnesium and calcium.
