DAGUPAN CITY, Pangasinan — The Provincial Health Officer (PHO) of this province said on Thursday it was still too early to conclude that the controversial anti-dengue vaccine, Dengvaxia, was the cause of the death of Dr. Kendrick Gotoc here last Sunday.

PHO Anna Teresa de Guzman, after visiting Gotoc’s wake in Binalonan last Tuesday, told The Manila Bulletin that the physician’s death should first be investigated and laboratory results examined before making any conclusion.

De Guzman confirmed that Gotoc had completed the three shots of Dengvaxia vaccine in 2016, but that his family mentioned that the doctor had also suffered from depression and loss of weight.

“It could be cardiac arrest or an infection. We still need to establish other symptoms relating to Dengvaxia before we could conclude on the matter”, De Guzman said.
