If you attribute to Arci Muñoz the online tutorial that says right after chopping onion “Masakit ba sa mata? Ganyang-ganyan din ako noong iwan mo’ko,” it’s not right – but it’s okay.
The singer-actress is quick to the draw with her “hugot lines” and when she aims at you, consider yourself shot to the heart.
She even brings it to the kitchen then on to the pages of “Cheat Days,” a cookbook for the “sawi.”
“People say turn your pain into literature,” Arci said in an exclusive interview with Bulletin Entertainment. “So, that’s what I did.”
The book was inspired by her character Tintin from the 2016 film “Always Be My Maybe.” In one scene, while doing makeup tutorial, she said, “I use this particular primer kasi tinutulungan tayo mapanatili ’yung makeup sa ating face so you’ll look fresh buong araw, buong gabi. Alam mo naman, maraming bagay ang hindi nagtatagal.”
“Cheat Days” features 25 dishes, 10 cocktail mixes and bushels of hilarious hugot lines. As example, the actress explains how the bitterness of ampalaya can be a great metaphor for shattered love life. Arci tells you to marinate meat in vinegar to soften it, then suggests you do the same with your merciless heart.
Her favorite recipes are beer canned chicken and vanilla vodka with gummy bear popsicle.
“Sabi nila, ‘The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach.’ Anong nangyari sa akin, bakit naghiwalay pa rin kami?’ Ganu’n ’ yung mga mababasa ng readers sa book,” said Arci.
be released soon, shortly after her ongoing soap “Since I Found You” co-starring Piolo Pascual, Alessandra de Rossi and Empoy Marquez.
The Star Magic talent admitted most of her hugots in the cookbook were inspired by her failed relationship with Badi Del Rosario. She is now happily in relationship with businessman Anthony Ng.
Telling her she now epitomizes the “hugot princess” moniker, Arci demurred. The singer-actress said she is proud to have turned her heartache into something productive.
“The book is like a stage, a process. Parang sa buhay kasi natin kailangan talaga pagdaanan mo ang pagiging bitter for you to be better. It’s like magagalit ka, in denial na humo-‘hopia’ ka, tapos ‘ampalaya’ ka pa. Lahat yan konektado eh. Process yan para maging better ka at maging ‘ice cream’ sa huli.”
Admitting she had no formal schooling in cooking, Arci got the skills from her “kitchen-inclined” family.
Don’t be surprised but she with whistlebait figure is fond of eating and, well, eating pa more.
“Hindi alam ng tao na mahilig ako magluto. Kasi my mom and dad, magaling silang magluto and talagang lumaki kami with good food,” she shared, adding that among her favorites are her mother’s version of tapa and her sister’s bagoong.
Arci loves cooking for her family and loved ones.
“Every time I see the reaction sa faces ng mga taong pinaglulutuan ko, na satisfied sila at nasasarapan sila, parang worth it lahat ng pagod,” she said, smiling.
Swag and sexy
Arci is one ultra interesting lady. From boyish to girly outfits, she can slay it both. And as written on her Instagram bio, she’s “artista sa umaga, rakista sa gabi” (she’s the vocalist fronting local rock band Philia).
“I guess ito talaga ako eh. Parang hindi ko naman alam kung papaano ko napag-ko-combine ’yun (swag and sexy). Parang, it just comes out naturally,” she said.
The 29-year-old actress has been in the industry for nearly 13 years now. However, she still hasn’t gotten the hang of being a “showbiz personality.” Meaning, she continues to say what she likes, bashers be damned.
“Ayoko kasing maging masyadong ma-showbiz na tao,” she noted. “I mean, I want to be real na parang what you see is what you get naman eh. Basta kapag may nagtanong sa akin (na reporter), sinasagot ko pero siyempre ’yung mga tanong na komportable akong sagutin. ’Pag hindi ako komportable, sasabihin ko din naman.”
Arci has been hounded by criticisms and controversies over the years. The biggest lesson she has learned from all of these is not to engage in full-on battle with bashers particularly on social media.
Learn the art of deadma, she said.
“Kumbaga may sarili silang opinion eh. Hindi ko naman mapi-filter ’yun,” she said. “Ako, as much as possible, dedma na lang hindi din naman ako ma-social media na tao. Nagbabasa ako ng comments, pero kasi feeling ko nauubos ’yung oras sa ganu’n imbes na mapunta sa ibang bagay. I use social media as a means lang for me to be able to communicate with my fans at hindi para ma-stress ako sa mga negative comments about me.”
Arci believes she has a strong personality. Describing herself as “one of the boys,” she won’t let naysayers hurt her feelings or of those close to her.
If she needs to fight back, she will – and she advises all ladies to do the same.
“I fight for my right and hindi ko hahayaan na i-violate ng ibang tao ang rights ko. Parang ang sinasabi ko nga palagi sa mga kapwa ko babae, ‘Don’t let anyone tell you na you’re just a woman because you are a woman.
“Sinasabi nila na weaker gender (daw ang babae), no. We are always in demand. We need to be strong. You are not lesser of a person because you’re a woman. So don’t let anyone put you down.”
Fun facts on Arci:
1. Arci often does her own makeup.
“Makeup is really something personal to me. And I just don’t want people to say na ‘Ah ginawa lang yan ng ibang people for her.’ I want them to know na I’m in charge of everything,” she said. Should she retire from acting, Arci sees herself pursuing a career as makeup artist.
2. She loves everything that has to do with the arts.
“I can’t see myself being in the office. Ang dami kong gustong gawin, tapos nagdo-draw din ako nu’ng bata ako, tapos nagba-banda ako. Basta lahat ng mga kinalaman sa creativity, interesado akong gawin.”
3. She has three tattoos.
Her favorite is the Sakura design on her right hand.
“Favorite place ko kasi ang Japan so I decided na magpalagay ng Sakura na tattoo,” she said.
If anything, Arci disclosed she is not planning to get inked again anytime soon.
4. She has a restaurant business.
Arci co-owns Habit Gastropub in Quezon City.
“Actually parang naisip lang namin na tambayan ng mga friends ko ito. Pero open din siya sa public for events or ’yung mga magba-barkada na gustong mag-hangout,” she said.
5. Marriage is not a priority just yet.
While describing her boyfriend as “very supportive and very caring,” Arci is not ready to become Mrs. Ng anytime soon.
She doesn’t have an ideal age for marriage as “ayoko ma-pressure.”
“Nagiging trend kasi ngayon ’yun, ’yung nagpapakasal kasi na-pressure sa paligid nila. Ako I believe, kailangan ma-feel ko talaga ’yung right timing. Right now, wala pa siya (marriage) sa isip ko kasi marami pa akong gustong gawin,” she said. “Kailangan ko muna ma-fulfill ’yung saya ko as an individual. Kasi, at the end of the day, ’yung partner mo, you are two separate individuals.
Kailangan ko muna maging buo by myself kasi naniniwala ako na one else can give you that except yourself mismo.”
