17 hurt as jeepney overturns in Sorsogon

Sorsogon City – At least seventeen passengers of a Cumadcad, Castilla–bound public utility jeepney were injured and rushed to hospitals in Sorsogon City after it overturned along the national highway in Barangay Ticol on early Monday evening.

Police said the jeepney was traversing Maharlika Highway from Sorsogon City going to Cumadcad, Sorsogon when it suddenly  encountered a mechanical problem causing the vehicle to overturn resulting in multiple injuries for the passengers.

The 17 passengers were identified as Domingo Borral Asañon, Glen Jintanar Jebulan, Irny Bojador Mangampo, Jelo Lascano Jebulan, Joren Recto Bonto, Myra Labayo Dellomas, Joyce Dela Cruz Hacutina, Liezl Lasala Leoderes, Arcelia Martos Bajamundi, Catherine Domdom, Diana Mae Caretero, Pamela Murcillo Almojela, Milagros Nulial Ebuenga, Maria P. Lasim, Joyce Bellen, Adelida Escoral, and Jocelle Enalpe Marti.

Injured passengers were rushed to Sorsogon Provincial Hospital and SMMG Hospital by the responding emergency medical team, while the jeepney driver identified as Jose Gabona Jazmi of Barangay Ticol was unharmed.

Meanwhile, another vehicular accident was also reported in Barangay Esperanza, Pilar, Sorsogon Monday evening.

A male passenger of a motorcycle was hit by a DLTBCO bus, and died on the spot due to severe injuries, witness told the police.

The victim was identified as Ulpiano Placios, 41 year old amputee of Barangay San Rafael, Guinobatan, Albay.

Investigation revealed that the motorcycle driven by Michael Llave was hit by the bus driven by Emerito Ricamara. The bus driver is now under police custody.
