Tacloban City – While the President attends to pressing issues that beset the country, his partymates in the PDP-Laban in Leyte work to alleviate the plight of those close to the President’s heart – the poor.
Three months after Duterte assumed office, his partymates, led by Joel R. Caminade, PDP-Laban regional vice-president, launched Duterte’s Kitchen with an arroz caldo feeding event for the pupils at the Rizal Central School.
Duterte’s Kitchen has also been taken to various parts of Leyte and Samar by PDP-Laban regional officer Allan Tanjuakio, businessman Andrew Ng, former Rotary Club of Tacloban president Charlie Uykim Sr, and PDP-Laban regional president Marjorie Jaramilla.
The group’s most recent kitchen was opened in Guindapunan, Palo, Leyte, last month where Davao Mayor Sara Duterte Carpio served hot meals to the beneficiaries.
When natural calamities strike, Caminade said Duterte’s Kitchen also serves hot meals and chicken porridge to displaced families who are unable to cook and stranded due to the acts of nature.
Though he admits that the feeding program cannot really solve the malnutrition problem in the country, Caminade said that with the hot meals, a message is delivered – the President cares!
