BUTUAN CITY – Fifty alleged members, supporters and sympathizers of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army (CPP-NPA) voluntarily surrendered to Army troops in the field on Tuesday and submitted themselves for reorientation/redirection today in Compostela Valley (ComVal) province, said Capt. Jerry S. Lamosao, chief of Public Affairs Office (PAO) of the Army’s10th Infantry (Agila) Division, in a statement sent to the Manila Bulletin today.

He said the voluntary surrender of one member of Milisya ng Bayan (MB), three members of Sangay ng Partido sa Lokalidad (SPL) and 46 mass-bass supporters, was made possible through the efforts of Barangay Katipunan chairman Pas B. Maglangit in Nabunturan town of that same province, in coordination with 1st Lt. Andrew P. Ollasic, officer-in-charge of Charlie Company of 25th Infantry Battalion (25th IB).

The reorientation/redirection of these unarmed CPP-NPA members and mass-base supporters took place at 25th IB command post in Barangay Manat, Nabunturan, ComVal province, the 10th ID PAO chief said.

According to certain alias “Togsan,” a member of MB, he decided to surrender due to unfulfilled promise of NPAs that they will help him have a parcel of land to be cultivated and improve his living condition, Lamosao said.

“At the age of 59, he hasn’t experienced what the NPAs have told him. It gets even worst when alias Togsan was asked to lay IEDs along mobility corridors of the operating troops,” he added.

Maj. Gen. Noel S. Clement, commanding general of the 10th “Agila” Division, today commended the troops’ accomplishment.

“We have been consistent in delivering our services to the people specially providing a window of hope for the NPAs, militias and mass supporters of the CPP-NPA terrorist group who wanted to surrender and reaffirm their allegiance to the government. With the continuing efforts of 10ID and its stakeholders, we are seeing victory against long-running insurgency in our area of responsibility,” said the 10th ID chief, in the same statement sent to the Manila Bulletin.

Meanwhile, the personalities who have surrendered are undergoing interview/debriefing today at headquarters of 25th IB.

Their real identities are withheld, the same with others who surrendered ahead of them, for security reason.
