Hundreds of municipal employees here, along with various groups, participated Thursday in the fun run to campaign against cigarette smoking, among others.

The five-kilometer fun run, which took off at the multi-purpose covered court of Barangay Sta. Cruz, snaked through the busy Jose Abad Santos Avenue and wound up at the Lubao Bamboo Hub and Ecopark in Barangay Sta. Catalina.

The event aimed at eliminating the prevalence of smoking and promoting a healthy lifestyle.

“Smoking adversely affects one’s health. We hope that through this fun run, we could be able to encourage and help others to quit smoking. Walking and running can also help to overcome withdrawals and cravings while cutting down or quitting smoking,” said Mayor Mylyn Pineda-Cayabyab.

It also served as an avenue to inform the public of the other services of the municipal government in employment generation and civil registry.

Through the directives of Mayor Cayabyab, the advocacy run was organized by the Municipal Civil Registrar, Health Office, Human Resource Management Offices, and the Public Employment Services Office.

The run was made more exciting with series of stops where instructors led the runners to dance some Zumba numbers.
