4.2 magnitude quake jolts Davao Oriental

A 4.2 magnitude earthquake jolted Davao Oriental Thursday morning, April 12, 2018, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

In its bulletin, Phivolcs said the tremor was recorded at 7:54.m.

The epicenter was plotted only 6 kilometers (km) away from the town proper of Caraga, Davao Oriental province, Phivolcs said.

The earthquake had a depth of 147 km, it said.

The state agency did not raised tsunami alert or aftershocks while the provincial disaster risk reduction and management council there reported no damage or injury.

Earlier, a 2.5 magnitude tremor also registered at 6:22 a.m. on the same day (April 12), Phivolcs also said, in its bulletin.

The epicenter was located 26 km northwest of Santa Monica town (Sapao), Surigao del Norte, with a depth of 26 km, the state agency also reported.

The Surigao del Norte risk reduction and management council here reported no damage or injury.

The two tremors that struck Thursday morning in Davao Oriental and Surigao del Norte provinces were both tectonic in origin, Phivolcs added ####
