Cavite’s Provincial Fisheries Office (PFO) will soon have a three-storey building that would make it easier to serve the province’s estimated 18,000 fisher folk.
PFO Senior Aquaculturist Marinel Punzalan said on Tuesday that the office would start operations in its new home in Bukana Village inside the sprawling Cavite State University (CvSU) campus here, once equipment, office materials and supplies are in place.
Punzalan said PFO Cavite officer-in-charge Soledad Cajulis led the formal blessing and inauguration of the building last April 4 but noted that they were still in the process of transferring their materials and equipment from their Tanza office to the new site and “we are targeting to complete this on or before April 20.”
In its new building, the PFO will provide licensing, regulatory and extension services to fisher folk from Cavite’s coastal cities of Bacoor and Cavite and the towns of Kawit, Noveleta, Tanza, Rosario, Naic, Maragondon, and Ternate.
Punzalan said their office provides permits for commercial fishing vessels with more than 3 gross tonnage; issues licenses and IDs for fishermen; and provides technical and livelihood assistance.
“Kung may request for fingerlings and problema sa fishpond (If there are requests for fingerlings or if they have problems with their fishponds), they can always call us and we will respond,” she said.
