Local police said that upon spotting the foreign vessel, “Crystal Bay,” very close to shoreline of Barangay Pantoc, they reported the incident to the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG).

Following its investigation, the PCG said the Panama-registered cargo vessel originated from Tawau, Malaysia enroute to Niigata, Japan when it encountered big waves that forced it to seek refuge in this coastal town, where it ran aground.

The vessel, which is transporting round logs, has a crew of 18 Filipinos, including Captain Tito P. Radam.
