Julie Anne San Jose has it all. She’s beautiful, charming and passionate, and great at singing, acting and hosting. The multi-hyphenate one is Asia’s Pop Sweetheart alright, all at age 23.
Secret to success? She reinvents herself from time to time to stay on radar amid changing times.
“How do I live to that? Siguro it’s all about me making more music, performing and making people happy,” she told Bulletin Entertainment in a recent interview.
Julie Anne often explores other genres beyond her forte.
“I want to explore more about myself, my capabilities. Right now, I’m trying to explore the R&B (genre), and I haven’t (even) done classical yet. So hopefully (ma-try ko siya in the future),” said she who loves listening to indie artists. “I know naman po na iba-iba ‘yung taste ng mga tao so, ako, as much as possible, dumedepende din ako sa mga trends, sa mga uso. Kasi gusto po nila (fans) na palaging may nakikitang bago and (delivering on that), I guess that’s what makes you an authentic artist.”
Julie Anne released the first single of her upcoming fourth album early this year that within thirty minutes made available, “Nothing Left” topped the iTunes Philippines chart.
The second single, her own composition, will be out soon.
“Binase ko siya from my hugot experiences,” she hinted.
Having received a Diamond Record Award for her previous albums, the singer said she’s not after the recognitions anymore; awards, she added, are just bonuses.
“Siyempre may pressure pa rin on my part na mag-succeed ‘yung album pero kasi ako happy na ako na nabigyan ako ng ganitong status (sa industry),” she related.
“Ang palagi ko naman sinasabi, I just want to keep making music. Gusto ko lang kumanta, umarte. I think what matters most is ‘yung suportang natatanggap ko from my family, sa mga fans ko kasi it if weren’t to them, wala ako ngayon sa kinatatayuan ko.”
Back on boob tube
Julie Anne will soon star on the romantic-comedy series “My Guitar Princess,” alongside Gil Cuerva and Kiko Estrada. The singer-actress expressed enthusiasm that it will see her combine singing and acting.
Asked what she enjoys most about acting, Julie Anne cited building rapport with co-actors.
Another thing is that she can now apply all the techniques she learned from workshops, including those from Anthony Vincent Bova, a New York-based acting coach who conducted an acting class for GMA Artists last year.
More, Julie Anne gears up for the second leg of their concert series “3 Stars, 1 Heart” this month.
Busy as she is, does she and rumored boyfriend Benjamin Alves still have time together? At the time of interview, Julie Anne revealed they’ve not seen each other for a week.
Speaking of “3 Stars, 1 heart,” the concert series heads to Dagupan on April 14. Julie Anne shares the stage with Christian Bautista and Regine Velasquez Alcasid. The first leg was held on Cebu last January.
Julie Anne revealed why fans shouldn’t miss the show.
“The show is a product of collaboration talaga. Actually sa theme pa lang, we actually spend a day para mapag-isipan,” she shared. “I guess isa sa mga highlights ng show is ‘yung pag-e-exchange namin ng hits like ako kakantahin ko ‘yung hits ni Ate Reg, tapos si Christian kakantahin ‘yung hits ko.”
Working with Asia’s Songbird is a dream come true for Julie Anne. Growing up, she often belted Regine’s songs in singing contests.
Asked how she feels about Regine telling her “magaling kang singer,” Julie Anne said she is so honored and thankful for the kind words.
