Kidapawan City – A retired soldier was killed by his own sister after a heated altercation over land issues in Carmen town in North Cotabato, Friday, reports said.

Authorities identified the victim as Jerome Mampenayo, 45, former member of the Philippine Army, and resident of Barangay Katiko in President Quirino, Sultan Kudarat.

The suspect was identified as Elena Mampenayo-Orbina, 34, and resident of Carmen, North Cotabato.

Reports from Carmen Police said the victim arrived at his younger sister’s house at Sitio Mahulamod, Barangay Liliongan in Carmen, North Cotabato, around 1245 noon, Friday, brandishing a bolo.

But even before Mampenayo could reach his sister’s house, the suspect fired at him, hitting him in the head and in different parts of the body, according to Supt. Bernard Tayong, spokesperson for the Cotabato Police Provincial Office (CPPO).

The victim died on the spot.

The suspect voluntarily yielded to authorities later in the day and said she was ready to face charges to be filed against her by her brother’s family.

The suspect admitted the killing stemmed from a deep-seated land conflict between them.
