SAN JUAN, Batangas — A swimming accident in this town killed a 12-year-old girl and landed her nine-year-old cousin and playmate in the hospital last Wednesday.
Police said Ria Ruiz drowned while swimming in the beach of Barangay Subukin, here.
Ruiz’s relatives tried to revive her, but could not. She was later declared dead on arrival at the San Juan District Hospital.
Her cousin, John Raven Paradero, was rescued from the same deep end of the sea and taken to the same hospital where he remains confined.
Police Officer 1 Richard King Valenzuela, case investigator, said the victims were swimming in the shallow part of the beach but were carried away by the current to deeper waters.
