The city government will deploy some 600 students to various government and private companies for a 22-day employment this summer.
This is in support to the Department of Labor and Employment’s (DOLE) Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES) and the Government Internship Program (GIP).
Arnel Mugol of the local Public Employment Service Office (PESO) said the program, a regular activity every summer, also forms part of City Mayor Antonio “Ony” Ferrer’s educational assistance program by opening opportunities for students to earn during the summer break.
Up for job placements are students, from high school, senior high school and college, most of whom are currently enrolled in the locality’s public schools and state universities whose families are recipients of Department of Social Welfare and Development’s 4Ps.
They will receive a minimum wage (for those placed in private companies) or salary grade 1 (for those assigned in government offices), depending on their area of assignment.
The program also includes deployment of out-of-school youth and persons with disabilities.
The initial batch of 300 students will commence work at the city hall on April 10 (up to May 10) and the next batch is scheduled from May 10 to June 9.
Sixty percent of the funding will come from the sponsoring LGU, while the remaining 40 percent will come from DOLE , thru SPES or Republic Act 10917.
Ferrer will also provide two sets of uniforms for the 600 interns who will work from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the afternoon. SPES is open to all qualified high school, senior high, college, technology and vocational students or dropouts who are interested to be employed in the summer job program of the government. Advisories are distributed in all schools and applicants are endorsed/recommended by the school heads/principals.
